Great Divide Northbound

Hey all,

Matt from Alaska

Just made it to Albuquerque, NM. Gotta buy a few things for the bike and then I'm headed to Antelope Wells to begin the Great Divide Mountain Bike Trail to the Canadian border and hopefully into Banff .

Someone come join me

If anyone in ABQ could give me a ride out to Antelope Wells I would provide all the gas and food and am definitely willing to wear PPE masks gloves etc

Hope to meet someone out there.. there are almost no sign ups this year in the trails website

Canadian Border Closed

Matt,

I've always wanted to do that route, I'm sure you'll have an amazing trip. Make sure you check the border conditions as you travel north. The Canadian border is closed to Americans and it doesn't look like it will be reopening soon. Good luck.

Tennessee Touring

Howdy, all. I'm a noob looking for touring ideas (besides the Natchez Trace) out of Nashville. The challenge lately has been finding places to camp/set up my tent during our health crisis. Looking for any tips from y'all. Thanks and see you on the road!

Heading out on my first tour- Bristol, UK throughNorthern France

Hey!

My partner and I will be riding from Bristol, UK to Poole, taking the ferry via Jersey to St Malo then heading towards Parc Naturel Régional d'Armorique, looping up to the Tour de Manche Route back to Saint Malo, and going a little further to check out Mont Saint Michel before heading back to Bristol via the St Malo-Poole ferry.

This is my first touring trip and I am excited! Any advice you've got, great campsites along any of those legs, great hosts or any other wisdom, I'm all ears!

Rallarvegen

Bonjour. Merci. Bon vélo à tous !

Hi,

Hi,

Im soon setting of from the Uk to tour the world  for as far and long as I can.

I should arrive in Dieppe France 30th August when the first leg of my journey will begin in Europe.
I will be traveling across Europe to Switzerland then along the Mediterranean coast to Albania, Greece and Turkey. I then hope to cycle across the Stans into China.
But at the moment my plans are very loose and im exspecting them to change frequently with the current situation.
I would greatfully appreciate any advice and would love to talk to possible hosts on my journey.

Would also love to meet new people and share traveling adventures with like minded soles.
Thanks

Al

This sounds like it will be

This sounds like it will be pretty tough, not just due to COVID but also the timing. It will be entering deep winter by the time you finish the Stan's and the winter there is nothing to sniff at. Bitter and brutal.

Check your timings and adjust your route if needed. I am looking to do something similar starting next week but I am probably going to stop in Turkey and fly over to East Asia if it opens. Central Asia probably not happening this year.

Hi Shaun, thanks for your reply dude. Yes I'm definitely going to assess the situation also in Turkey with regard to Conditions and border issues/coronavirus etc. Im interested in spending some time on various Trails in Turkey and Georgia, having a break from the cycling and waiting until early next year to start crossing the Stans is a possibility ive considered. After all im in no rush. Im pretty open minded and willing to changing my plans especially in the current situation.

Planning trip from Barcelona to London, via Geneve,

Hey awesome people,

I'm currently planning a bikepacking trip from Barcelona back up to UK, via Geneve, Switzerland where my sister lives, though I thought it would be pretty awesome to see a bit more than ust France on my back up north, It would be really cool to see Denmark and cross the huge bridge into Malmo, Sweden.

I'm not at all an experienced tourer but have dreams and need for adventure, I've also been wondering about using trains for some parts.

Any ideas, tips, routes, or has anyone done anything like it before? Any hosts (I'm a chef if that helps haha) on the route, or any recomendations for stopping points? I reckon I could push to 100km per day, as I did 60km per day during my Camino de Santiago and I was much less fit.

Been looking to it September/October time, when hopefully the Covid situation has calmed down a little bit, the heat has gone away a little bit and before winter is coming.

Really appreciate any assistance.

Trip through the netherlands

Hello everyone,

starting with the 22nd of August I and my girlfriend are going to cycle through the netherlands for ~10 days. Starting at our house in Kempen (inbetween Venlo and Duisburg) we will be heading to first visit Nijmegen and Arnhem, next days Amersfoort, Utrecht, Amsterdam, then some hopefully nice weather conditioned days at the sea, cycling to Den Haag and Rotterdam and going further to 's-Hertogenbosch and Eindhoven.

We love to visit and see ancient or interesting cities and places, having some days off cycling on our trips to get to see more or just to relax.

We woud be happy if there are some people willing to host us (M48/F54) or even join us for a part showing us some nice places of their homearea which are not overrun (Corona ist still out there). After sitting like 6 months just at home in home office and at our very rural homeplace, gardening we really need to see something different then the fields across the street, behind the house, right and left. :)

Here is our currently planned route

Can I camp in your yard! Riding through Switzerland and Germany

Hello everyone,

I've been cycling for a week and decided to change routes and head for Swiss beauty and lovely Germany. I'm planning to take the hertzroute, then Lausanne to basel. Afterwards I will find my way through Germany to arrive in the Netherlands.

If you can host it would be greatly appreciated, a place to camp is all I need and I'm extra diligence. Would be awesome to meet some cyclists. Cheers!

Depending on the time that

Depending on the time that you are arriving (from Basel to the netherlands, there is just 1 route - along the rhine :) ). You could camp here.

When ou leave the rhine between Düsseldorf and Krefeld, heading to the netherlands, you will find us 20km in front of the border (next to Venlo).

We are cycling from the 22nd to the 2nd of September through the NL ourselves. So we probably wont be here in that time. Just send us a msg.

Enjoy your ride, I love that area you are currently cycling at.

Thankyou for the offer!

Hello!

Apologies for the delay but I've been on the road and changed my trip as I had to end it early for work. But I plan for another one in that region as I now have the bike bug and I read you're travelling as well.

Thanks a showerload for the offer and happy travels!!!

Oslo, Göteborg

Hey there

Me (Friedrich) and my girlfriend Luca from Germany will travel from Trelleborg to Oslo in September. Our journey will end in Oslo 25/26 September. For this finish we still need accommodation. Our ferry leaves on Monday 28.09.2020 at 13:45. If you are willing to host us for some days we would be very happy to see you soon. (Germany got marked as "red zone" but we are travelling through Sweden for 10 days before - so no worries about your home getting our quarantine :) )
We also want to cycle through Göteburg arriving on 19/20.09 and staying for 1 day. So again reach out to us if you might have accommodation.

Luca and I don't need much to be happy. The shower can also be cold :P We like to chat and to meet you because we both are very interested in new people. See you soon - first try showering warm ;)

Trips through the Netherlands

For this year I am not planning trips anymore. I did a few short (3 - 5 days) bicycle-camping trips this summer (so no WS). All starting from home and then going East or South.

For the rest of this year I am only planning 1 day rides. I live in Meppel, which is an ideal town for riding in all different directions. Maybe someone wants to be my guest for a night?

My original plan for this year was to tour during all month of June, going over the IJsselmeer by boat (Stavoren - Enkhuizen) and then riding through Noord-Holland, Zuid-Holland, Noord-Brabant or Utrecht, Gelderland, Overijssel and back home. Or maybe the other way round. But that plan was over because of lockdown, closed campings, a.a.

Now if everything goes better I want to do that planned trip next year. I still think June is the best month. Most nights I'll camp at 'Natuurkampeerterreinen', a few nights with family living along the route, but I would like to try some WS hosts too.

I love planning long before the real trip. So if you want to be my host  next year... please contact.

Hey everybody!

Hey everybody!

So I'm planning on leaving from Barcelona in a few weeks going towards the UK. Not really got any specific stops other than one in Geneva Switzerland, but if anybody would like to join and give input on the route of course, it'd be great.

Would also really appreciate it if any can offer warm showers and a bed (even if with this pandemia going on I have to ask).

Mostly be riding through france into swiss, then up towards the north.

Well likely finish in London.

Thanks very much and feel free to get in touch!

December 12: Brussels to Cherbourg and ferry to Dublin

Starting on December 12, I'm going to travel from Bruxelles to traversing Normandy and getting a ferry from Cherbourg to Dublin. I'm going to do so cycling and ensuring social distancing during these restricted times of pandemic.

I am improvising this trip: I arrived to Brussels to help my sister (who lives here) with her family care. In the meanwhile, I have found a bargain for a tandem bike in Brussels. I have been considering buying a tandem since months, to travel with my family or friends, so I bought it, together with the basic camping equipment to start my journey back to Dublin, where I currently live.

Approximate route:

I'm actually traveling alone, and if you're is interested into joining for part of the trip, I will welcome your company and an extra pair of legs :)

to Ireland

Hi Luca, Sorry I am not on your route. But you gave me a good idea for a future trip. I'd love to visit Ireland, where I was once, decades ago. And this time I want to ride my bicycle there and take a ferry. I looked at the maps to see how a ride through England and Wales would be (taking the ferry from Hoek van Holland first and then a ferry from Wales to Ireland). Maybe having a nice ride to Cherbourg and then take the ferry to Ireland is even a better plan ... At least another option.

WS Üyesi WS Üyesi kullanıcısının resmi
Hi Inge!

Hi Inge!

I considered England, but as I'm traveling quite heavy, I concluded that the path through Normandy will be easier.

I also have never been in Normandy and I'm intrigued by the coastal way with those nice cliffs :)

The downside may be that the ferry trip from Cherbourg to Dublin lasts around 18 hours, but that long ferry trip would also another first time experience for me, so I'm looking forward for it too.

WS Üyesi WS Üyesi kullanıcısının resmi
to Ireland

Those were my thoughts too. I would like to ride my bicycle in England and Wales, but better spend some weeks doing only that, not going to Ireland on the same trip. I am a slow rider with a heavy bike (the ordinary old-fashioned Dutch type) and packed panniers front and back. I think the long ferry will be a nice experience too. Long ago I was on a boat from Amsterdam to Norway and I liked it, maybe this will be like that.

I know Normandy, or at least some parts of it. It's beautiful. Riding all the way there will take me some time too, maybe even 2 weeks. But I never was there on the bicycle.

Cross Canada tour May 15 - Sept 25 (at the speed of life)

After a year of social isolation, a group of adventurers is planning an epic trip in 2021 to help reconnect and rebuild communities.

More details about the route and logistics are at www.connectour.ca

ConnecTour has an ambitious cross-Canada cycle trip planned for the summer of 2021 and is looking for like-minded individuals to join all or part of the journey, whether for a day, a week or one of the five stages. The trip will cover nearly 8,000 kilometres over four months, starting in Victoria in mid-May and ending in St. John’s, Nfld. by mid-September.

“Beyond the exceptional memories, we aim to fuel a movement – a national conversation on who we are and to celebrate the ordinary heroes who make us unique.” ⠀

To be honest, my respect for the great wildness of this country is great. I believe that a bicycle trip of several month in such environment will be a big challenge. Nevertheless, although I´m nearly 62 years old, I feel fit enough to deal with this mission. If you want to know more aout me, please write directly to my email account [email protected]
