Wisdom to cross the pyrenees France to Spain by Basque Country please??

Hello again everybody!

Well, having finished my first tour, Croatia- Turkey, I continued with the second (the way back)Bruxelles- Madrid. For this last part I would love to take a few days to cross the Pyrenees and to find some nice, mid difficulty passes to enter Spain. Has anybody gone into Spain this way by the side of the Basque Country? Any advise that you can share will be, as always, greatly appreciated!

Good rides!

Agustin

There is a northern route. Follow the Camino de Santiago signs. I have not done that route, but it is there.

Try starting from St. Jean de Pied in France. Follow the Camino de Santiago. You will have a 18 mile (30km) climb and the start down towards Pamplona. Route is marked well. Once you get through the mountains, you could turn north to Basque country.

Great! Thank you! I'll do some research on that road to see how high it goes, but maybe can be made in a couple of days?

Greetings!

you have several options,

you have several options, depending where you will be.
The way Bruce told you is Ibañeta:
http://www.altimetrias.net/aspbk/verPuerto.asp?id=389 (only until Ibañeta, 1057m)
to the east you have Larrau and then Pierre St Martin, but both are hard climbs, and from your message i guess you want to avoid them, and the others (Somport or Pourtalet) are far from Basque Country so...
to the west:
Urkiaga, from Saint Etienne de Baigorri, near from Saint Jean Pied de Port

and from that place also (St E. Baigorri) you can go through Izpegi:

the next one, quite near from the coast is Otxondo:
http://www.cyclingcols.com/asp/colpopup.asp?cl=685&p=1865
but i think is far from the places i suppose you will be, and the other chances are better for you.
if you have any other questions just ask, also in spanish if you prefer.
have a good way ;-)
