hi i'm michael ... i'm a 62 year old uk citizen. my family of four chldren (8 grandchildren) have grown up and now have their own lives and whilst i shall miss being away from them, i'm starting to plan a trip across america along the transamerica cycle route (bikecentennial). i expect to be ready to head off by the end of july this year 2018. i expect the trip to take around 75 days, travelling around 60 - 65 miles per day with a few days off.
i've solo cycle camped and backpacked a fair bit, but never undertaken anything on this scale before, so that aspect will be new for me. i shall be carrying camping gear and so i expect to be self sufficient in terms of accomodation, however its always good to meet up with people when travelling to see another perspective on life and share experiences. i've never been to the states before so i don't really know what to expect. but i expect it to be a fantastic trip seeing some amazing sights and meeting many interesting people.
so ... any offers of accomodation from hosts along or near the transmerica route would be gratefully recieved. i'm very easy going and extremely low maintenance, so pretty much anything works well for me. i have no food fads or dislikes ... i just like food! i'm happy to dig in and help with stuff around the house and bring along food / beers / wine. not sure what else i can say except pls drop me a line if you would like to host me on my journey.
as a footnote to this, if anyone has cycled the transamerica route astoria, oregon to yorktown, virginia i would love to hear from you. any tips and advice would be a great help especially from anyone in the uk who has comleted this trip. i'm trying to get an extended visa so i can stay longer than 90 days if i choose to so again any advice on that would be handy
best wishes to all the cycle touring community and thanks in advance
