Cycling Calgary to Vancouver

I am interested in knowing if anyone is thinking of cycling from Calgary to Vancouver in 2019 or if interested in cycling smaller sections of the route with me described below?

I am likely to go in May/June and I am flexible on the dates. I am looking at cycling the following route roughly:

Calgary, Banff, Invermere, Kimberly, Creston, Nelson, Castlegar, Greenwood, Summerland, Princeton, Hope, Whiterock, ferry to Island and then up to Nanaimo, Comox, Sunshine Coast (I am staying an extra day in Castlegar, Summerland, Comox, and Sechelt). I am considering touring light on this trip so will be staying at Warmshowers and hotels/motels however I am flexible on that as well meaning I could travel fully outfitted.

Look forward to hearing from somebody.

Stay with us in Vancouver?

Hi Kirk,

We’re not yet sure of our 2019 plans, but there’s a good chance we’ll be here. Please get in touch, and you’d be very welcome here when you get to  Vancouver!

Cheers,

Margo and Chris

Hi Kirk,

Hi Kirk,

Have you picked a date yet? I could join you from Invermere onward..I like long days on the bike, minimum 100-125 km/day. Do you ride longer days like that? It may be nice to join you!

Hello. I am leaving Calgary on June 1st.

Hey Kirk.  Too bad that my timing is off.  I'm hoping to start a trip on June 30 - July 20.  I was going to follow a similar route, but in reverse. It sounds like you are going to be on The Great Trail? Is that correct?  Is so, I might hit you up for some info before I leave.  Best of luck on your trip.

Vancouver Island/Sunshine Coast

Hi Kirk,

I'm in Victoria. Unfortunately my tiny apartment and the fact that I work from home means I can't host but I'm potentially interested in riding up the island and/or Sunshine Coast.

Ride

Hello Rikki. I am going to be taking the Ferry from Twass... to Salt Spring Island and from there over to Crofton, up to Nanaimo, maybe over to Port Alberni, back the next day to Nanaimo and heading up to Comox to visit an old high school friend. I have a spare day in Comox. From there ferry over to mainland and head South to Sechelt to visit an Uncle and Aunt. I should be on the Island 15, 16, 17.  Plans change but that's the jist of it. Have you been  to Port Alberni? Where on the Island have you cycled? I am biking with some gear so if you are cycling light, I may be a little slow for you unless you are going to pack your panniers too? You can text me directly too if you like at

If you want to see some trip photos, friend me on Facebook and I'll send invite to

Touring on 2 Wheels. Maybe you can see that page regardless, not sure.

Nice to hear from you, enjoy your spring weather.

Hi Kirk,

Hi Kirk,

I'm not sure I'll be available those days because of work but I will get in touch closer if I can. I have driven to Port Alberni but never biked. There will be some big hills I think on that route but I think you'll really enjoy cycling around the Comox area and from Crofton to Nanaimo. SaltSpring is lovely too, but some very steep short hills. From Nanaimo to Parksville, you have to ride on a very busy highway. I've cycled as far north as Courtenay/Cumberland on the island. Take the old highway along the ocean as the main highway is usually busy and not nearly as scenic.
