My first tour was more than 50 years ago, the epic, around the world. About 10 years ago I did a bit in South America.
Alas, I'm not 20 anymore. I have a lot of bits and pieces that one would need if one were going to tour: Panniers, racks, kerosene stove, tents, tires, and I don't know what else.
I am in Carlsbad CA (North San Diego county). So if you don't have an infinite budget for touring, come on by.
Quite frankly, you don't need much more than a will-to-go to tour. I encountered a couple guys touring on unicycles. I met a guy that rode an old Chinese bike from Mumbai to Sri Lanka. I told a buddy about an interview I had where the reporter asked, "How much does it cost to tour?", to which I replied, "I could go around the world on US$5." My buddy said, "What would you do with the change?"
Just go

Hi Gregg,
Do you have any 1-person tents? Looking for something lightweight if possible. Would love to find a used one before looking at making a new purchase. Thanks!
Hey Old surfer dude,
I'm a grad student at Berkeley trying to get going on some of my first tours -- I usually throw everything in a backpack and throw it on my back but would love to find some better panniers. Not sure if you would have any friends headed towards the bay soon or if mailing would be out out the questions but was interested.
