Cycle Route for Iran

Planning my route through Iran.

Being super hot at the moment, I'm inclined to keep to the mountains to avoid the desert sun, though I know I'll be missing some amazing landscapes.

My vague route plan at the moment is

Bandar Abbas
Lar
Shiraz
Persepolis
Yazd
Esfahan
Qom
Hamedan
Kermanshah
Tabriz
Sanandaj
Sero

Anyone have any comments / thoughts or recommendations?

Hi there we nearly 'finished'

Hi there we nearly 'finished' 7 weeks cycling in Iran. We couldn't take the boat to Bandar Abbas because of Noruz so we took a flight from Muscat to Lar and started cycling there all the way to Armenia.

So how about our route? https://www.warmshowers.org/node/51047#comment-10439

Greetings from Tabriz!

but you may consider the time

but you may consider the time they went their route. if you start before Norouz, starting from the south of Iran is one of the best option. but in the mid of spring, along the mentioned route you are going to have hot air as a permanent disturbing company!

I want to suggest you using bus for visiting your favorite cities which are before Hamadan in mentioned route. and then ride your bicycle through the rest which are in cooler climate region.

how many days will take till you reach Hamadan? and how long your visa is valid?
you can add some other wonderful cities to your list if new arrangement make you more time.

have a good ride

True it has already been 7

True it has already been 7 weeks ago when we started and even in the mountains in the north it can be hot going up. Our suggestion - Bus as much as you can on the heavy traffic stretches in the south and be quicker in the 'cooler' north.

Iran

I enjoyed Yazd, Nain, Meybod and Abarkuh the most.

But the traffic is awful most of the time...

Enjoy Iran it is tough but very exciting....

Iran Trip

Hi Velomad!
Iran is a good choice to cycle. You will meet a lot of very hospitable people. Also your itinerary covers very interesting spots. Good to avoid Teheran! As the distances are sometimes very long, the red crescent is a good option to ask for a space to sleep. You find them along the highways.
You travel will followed by the inteligemce, but dont worry. They will offer you a list of every city with a host who can help or assist you at any question. You will really enjoy that trip. Sometimes Iran gets really, really windy. Twice the wind was so strong, that we could not travel to the west on a bike. May be it depends on the season. I have been there last september. Enjoy!
