Tyre 28 pouces in Laos ?

Hey,

We are crossing the Laos by bike and we just have a problem with a tyre of 28 pouces (the marathon plus tour tire just failed and we have to change it quickly, there is one big hole on the side of the tyre). The problem is that there isn't any 28 pouces tire in Luang Namtha where we are staying now and we don't know where we can find one. Now we go south throw Luang Prabang and after Vientiane.

Do you thing that we can find some 28 pouces tyre on this way in these cities?

Thanks in advance for your response,

Damien and Marie

28 inch tyre

No chance. Probably in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The easiest way is to send a few tyres from home

Tire problems

You didn't say how large of hole you are dealing with, but if it is no larger than the diameter of a pencil, try folding a dollar bill four times and slide it between the tire casing and the tube. The high rag content of the dollar will do a good job of preventing the tube to blow out through the hole. Being in Laos, you might not have a US dollar, but any high rag content paper should do the trick.

I gather the US dollar is often used instead of the Kip in Laos.
I must admit I was amazed how tyres are repaired by street shoe menders in the Indian subcontinent and what a good job they make of it.
It may be worth getting the hole sewn and 'fixed' that way whilst waiting for one to be posted
