I'm a long haul cyclist and walker - motivated by the spirit of adventurous travel and importantly travel via ones own means from point A to B. During my travels in Australia and abroad I have used warmshowers to meet other like minded people and have welcomed the kind hospitality of a host in far and flung locations. Apart from the means of travel I beleive that its the actual act of travelling distances under ones own steam which bonds us. However as I do a lot of walking tours, and now with the aid of a one wheeled Carrix cart, I feel out of place when ever contacting hosts who are strictly bicyclist.
I believe that walkers should be now included as a part of the warmshowers ethos. Walkers are few and far at this point in time, but long distance walking is on the rise. However to my knowledge there isn't any web site offering community like warmshowers for walkers. It is beyond my means to create a walkers warmshoers site alone and it seems that this would only isolate the walkers from bicyclist. Therefore I anticipate that the Warmshowers community can embrace long distance walkers - not freeloading backpackers who only walk from bus station to hotel!
Think of the great travellers like Patrick Leigh Fermor and Bruce Chatwin who traversed continents on foot and how warmshowers would have been useful for their wary travel.
